Four Kinds of Hair Highlights

The idea behind hair highlights is to color a person’s hair by way of dying various strands or sections to be a lighter or darker color than the one that they are currently sporting. There are four main styles or types of highlights that you can have on your hair and these are as follows:

Basic hair highlights - This process requires the use of foils or strips of foil paper to detach various sections or strands of hair to color then in a way that will not run on to the hair which is to be left natural.

Lightening of the hair uses the basic hair highlighting method, where the strands or sections of hair will have the dye applied and then wrapped by the foil to protect the rest of the hair and to let the color develop.

Hair painting - this is a type of hair highlights which is regularly completed at home. Generally these are permanent changes, but can be semi-permanent and require the use of a painting brush or comb to apply the hair dye to various sections or strands of hair.

Chunking - this is a rather modern take on hair highlights which normally leads to very bright and obvious colors that are applied to the hair in chunks rather than strands and are more visible and more obvious.

Low-Lighting - again, another type of hair highlights but in a very different way. This is the complete reverse of highlighting in effect and uses darker shades or colors rather than lighter ones and is used on those that have light or fair hair to appear as if they have darker strands running through it.
